21. Bruxism - the habit of grinding teeth
22. Buccal - refers to the cheek- the outside surface of the posterior teeth nearest the cheek
23. Buccal Cavity - cavity located on the buccal (cheek side) surface of a posterior tooth
24. Bucco-lingual - from buccal surface to the lingual surface
25. Burrs - small, shaped cutting and grinding tools used in the drill (like drill bits)
26. Calculus - a hard material which forms on the teeth through the calcification (hardening) of plaque
27. Canine - also called the cuspid- a heavy tooth used for tearing and cutting- located at the corner of the dental arch- only one per quadrant
28. Caries - the disease process which results in the destruction of tooth structure
29. Carious Lesion - cavity, decay and caries
30. Cavitron Instrument - an instrument used to remove calculus. This is a brand name.
31. Cavity - the damage resulting from caries activity
32. Cementum - the hard, bone-like covering of the root of the tooth
33. Cervix - the neck of the tooth- the narrow area where the enamel of the crown and the cementum of the root join
34. Clasp Denture - a partial denture attached to the supporting teeth by clasp- is removable by the patient
35. Complete Denture - a removable appliance which replaces all of the teeth in one or both jaws
36. Composite - tooth colored plastic filling material
37. Cosmetic Dentistry - treatment of dental problems due to cosmetic reasons (discolored teeth, gaps, etc.)
38. Crown - portion of the tooth which projects above the tissue in which the root is attached
39. Cusp -a point on the top of a posterior tooth. There are four cusps on a posterior tooth.
40. Denture - false teeth, partial or complete, removable or fixed
41. Distal - the proximal surface of a tooth that is away from the midline   (an imaginary line between the two middle teeth)
42. Drifting - the movement of a tooth out of its normal position in an effort to fill the space left by a tooth that has been lost
43. Edentulous - toothless
